Magic City Discovery Center
Magic Climber
Dubbed a “super-climber” because the height is over 32 feet - the design and interactives are based on the natural and industrial history of Minot and the surrounding areas in North Dakota.
The abundance of “big sky” in Minot is the inspiration for the Cloud Tower, a switch back style climbing tower with multiple opportunities to stop in the “Clouds” along the way and take in miles and miles of the sky and landscape.
The “Oil Derrick” provides a style of climbing that differs from the Cloud Towers. Lower levels contain easier levels and as the climber assents the challenge increases. By cooperatively activating three mechanical interactives on different levels of the Derrick visitors activate the flow of oil, seen by LED lights which “move” up the Derrick’s center shaft.
Sitting atop the Cloud Tower and Oil Derrick is a Boeing B-52 Stratofortress Airplane. Minot Air Force Base became home to a large fleet of B-52’s in the 1960’s. The legacy of this history is woven into the memories and community pride of North Dakota.

Outside My Window
Designed for children 7 and under, this immersive environment is inspired by the seasons of North Dakota and features activities to foster development in children through exploration.
The area features the Treehouse and Wiggle Woods climber where visitors climb into the branches to look out at the world and see local wildlife. The Cozy Cabin hosts a rest area for the youngest visitors with soft play areas just for them and early literacy activities on the front porch. Just outside, visitors can practice ice fishing for local species, build a snowman and race their preferred sled down a mini hill.
Just outside the Wiggle Woods, visitors can camp under the stars in the tent, and roast their meal over a campfire. Visitors help bees pollinate flowers at the Bee Wall then visit the Planting Field and Orchard to harvest local fruits and vegetables to sell at the nearby Farmer’s Market.

Every Body
Built to accompany Ed, Edventure’s two story climber educates visitors on the inner workings of the human body. To educate visitors in detail, the second floor features interactive counters explaining how some of our core systems work.
Each interactive is designed to bring visitors to understand each system physically as well as visually. Air lights up the Lungs’ path, Food lights up down the Digestive System, Synapses fire in the Brain and Blood pumps through the heart as each panel is activated.
Each stand also features a life size model of the system, to show real scale and detail.

So much more
Join us for our upcoming new website, but in the meantime, here’s a glimpse into more of our work!
Honeycomb Climber
Located in Discovery Gateway: The Children’s Museum of Utah and finished in 2018, The Honey Climber is designed as a bee’s journey, replicating the cycle of pollination, honey production and other daily hive activities - including communicating by Waggle Dancing!
Flow planning in climber design is critical to success in order to create fun and safe experiences visitors of all ages. Multiple paths for entry and exit avoid “traffic jams” and easy paths back to a felling of safety. Spaces are incorporated to accommodate turning back, passing and taking a break from the buzz of activity.
Wonder Climber
Located in the Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City and finished in 2020, the Wonder Climber was fabricated by RedBox Workshop for Haizlip Studios (Architect and Master Planning) and Dimensional Innovations (Exhibit Design and Management). This multi-level multi-experience climber was based on the Wizard of Oz tornado. The climber includes a bus half in - half out of a building, Dorothy’s flying house, a cow, a bicycle and other objects “caught in the tornado” suspended from the ceiling.
Color Lab
Located in Cedarhurst Center for the Arts and finished in 2017, Colorful accents welcome our young artists to this inspirational space. In the Storytime Glen, visitors encounter the ‘big questions’ of art on the giant word mural custom wallpaper. Families are prompted to think about and discuss what art is, why we make it, and where it flourishes. The Central Gallery abound with hands-on with making art and activities to explore the fundamental principles of art. Giant Liteworks, and Lego Mosaic may be approached as an independent activity, but the size encourages cooperative creation. Creative problem solving and art creation demonstrate and teach art fundamentals like composition and color theory and explore various art movements and media.
